Question: Do you think there is a moment when an enlightened person realizes "I am enlightened"?Or is it too gradual for there to be a defining moment?
Enlightenment is instantly and so profound that the thought “I am enlightened” does not arise at all. You are in such “ah” that no thoughts arise at all. It’s just bliss and bliss takes up ALL space.
Also, enlightenment means that you have realized Oneness….there is no “I” in Oneness.
And, when you “become” enlightened….you realize that EVERYONE is enlightened.
This is such a profound awareness. Everyone is already enlightened. You may ask how can that be….well let me try to explain. At first sight it does not make sense and many will fight you on it. They will say…no I am not.
The reason why an enlightened one sees that everyone is enlightened is because to be enlightened is to “be the Self”. Everyone is the Self….already and before they became someone else. This may not be clear to the person “not enlightened” LOL (what a contradiction!).
The reason why a person may think they are not the Self is because they think they are someone else. They think they are …this person or that person (name, body, mind, personality, title, gender and so on).
That is why enlightenment is often referred to as seeing clear. It is the capacity to look beyond the form or what the mind thinks.
